The Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS) was introduced in 2016 and has to date allocated almost €184 million to over 1,800 projects nationally. It is one of a number of measures designed to rejuvenate rural towns and villages throughout Ireland. The scheme, which sees local authorities work with communities throughout the country, primarily targets funding at rural towns and villages with populations of less than 10,000 people.
From 2020 to 2024, Carlow County Council has been allocated almost €4.7 million for 36 projects and Kilkenny County Council has been allocated almost €4.3 million for 38 projects.
One project has been allocated funding in Co Carlow under the 2025 TVRS ‘Building or Land Acquisition Measure’. Due to the commercial sensitivities, details of individual projects receiving support will not being released until the purchase of the property in question is completed.
The 2025 TVRS ‘Main Scheme’ closed for applications at the end of July and the application assessment process is underway. I expect to be in a position to announce the successful projects later this year.
The attached tables provide details of the funding allocated and paid to projects in both Carlow and Kilkenny under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme since 2020 and to date in 2025.
