International students make an important contribution to Ireland in terms of the social, cultural and academic diversity they bring to Ireland's higher education institutions.
Nevertheless, it is a condition of the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration's permission to study in Ireland that international students are able to demonstrate that they have sufficient resources to support themselves here so that they will not become a burden on public services or public resources.
Ireland's higher education institutes in Ireland are autonomous bodies and have a variety of supports in place to assist those among their student body that may be encountering such difficulties.
