As this question refers to service matters, I have asked the Health Service Executive (HSE) to respond to the Deputy directly.

The Action Plan for Disability Services 2024 – 2026, which was based on the Disability Capacity Review to 2032: “A Review of Disability Social Care Demand and Capacity Requirements up to 2032” sets out a need for 222 adult multidisciplinary therapy (MDT) posts by 2026. The cost is estimated by the HSE to be in the region of €17m. It must be noted, however, that actions in the Plan are subject to the annual estimates process.

The Action Plan also states that it is proposed to conduct a more detailed mapping of requirements for adult multi-disciplinary support, assess how this will interact with supports provided through Primary Care teams, identify the skills required and the mix of professional and assistant professional grades, and develop a plan for how additional resources might be best deployed.

The HSE’s National Service Plan 2025 signals that the HSE will commence development of the model of provision for adult multidisciplinary therapy based on a mapping exercise to be conducted in 2025. The Department is engaging with the HSE on this proposal.
