I am informed by the Garda Authorities that there are 77 Gardaí attached to the Crime Hub in the Waterford/Kilkenny Division. There are 32 appointed detectives attached to the Waterford/Kilkenny Divisional Crime Hub who are tasked and routinely deployed in investigating serious and organised crime. 29 have completed their detective training and three are newly appointed and awaiting a training course.

There are 22 detectives attached to the Divisional Protective Services Unit in the Waterford/Kilkenny Division. These members are engaged in the investigation of serious sexual crimes.

There are 5 members of garda rank assigned to the Divisional Digital Hub based in Kilkenny which services the Waterford/Kilkenny Division. These members are involved in investigating serious and organised crime through the examination of Digital devices, Mobile Phones and CCTV.

In relation to Cyber Crime training, there are 41 Gardaí trained in Cyber Crime Investigation E-Learning (both Uniform and Detectives), 11 trained in Digital Evidence First Responder (DEFR) and 37 trained in Fraud and E-Crime in the Division.

In relation to Public Order there are 86 Gardaí trained in Public Order in the Division and attached to the Garda National Public Order Unit. It should be noted that the Public Order Unit is not a standing unit, with the unit staffed on an overtime basis from available trained members.

Additionally, regional and national supports are available to Garda Divisions, including units such as the Emergency Response Unit, Armed Support Units and Air Unit, and the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, National Economic Crime Bureau, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and National Cyber Crime Bureau.

886. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of promotions from the rank of detective inspector to detective superintendent within An Garda Síochána that occurred in 2024 and to-date in 2025, in tabular form. [48401/25]

Under section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business, which includes all internal HR matters, such as decisions regarding promotions. Furthermore, under section 34(1) of the same Act, the Garda Commissioner is independent in the performance of his functions.

I am informed by An Garda Síochána that the role of "Detective" is a duty type rather than a designated rank. In 2024 there was one member who was a Detective Inspector and who retained the duty type of “Detective” when promoted to Superintendent. There have been no such promotions to date in 2025.

I have requested the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda authorities. Regrettably, this was not available in time and I will write to the Deputy once the information is to hand.
