I propose to take Questions Nos. 600, 601 and 603 together.

Sport Ireland distributed €5.6 million in 2024 in respect of the Government Support for Inter County Gaelic Games in addition to the annual investment in Games Development. This funding is payable to the GAA which, in collaboration with the LGFA, Camogie Association and the Gaelic Players Association (GPA), is responsible for its distribution to teams and players along with its reporting and oversight.

I wish to advise the Deputy that the GPA has sent copies of its pre-Budget Submission for 2026 to me and to my officials. In line with other pre-budget submissions, it will be given due consideration in the coming weeks.

The Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF), formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme, is the primary vehicle for Government support for the development of sports and recreation facilities and the purchase of non-personal sports equipment.

The Fund's objectives are to:

  • Assist voluntary and community organisations, national governing bodies (NGBs) of sport, local authorities and Education and Training Boards and schools to develop high quality, well-designed, sustainable facilities in appropriate locations and to provide appropriate equipment to help maximise participation in sport and physical recreation.
  • Prioritise the needs of disadvantaged areas and groups (such as people with disabilities) in the provision of sports facilities.
  • Encourage the sharing of sports facilities.
It should be noted however, that the CSFF does not fund the purchase of land or buildings. Full details of the CSFF and the type of projects funded can be found at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie

A separate tax relief scheme for donations to sports clubs may be used by any sports club or organisations to assist in funding the acquisition of land or a building, developing facilities or purchasing fixed, non-personal equipment for sports activities, or repaying a loan for any of these purposes to fund the purchase of land. More information in this regard can be found at www.revenue.ie.
