The first school in question referred to by the Deputy was approved funding under the Department’s Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme to enable the school in question to build 8 mainstream classrooms, 2 SET (Prefab replacement) and ancillary. The project was devolved to the school Authority for delivery.
The stage 1 report for this project was received by my department which included a proposal for the use of department owned land between these two schools.
This land was intended to be used as shared car parking and set down for both schools. The department have been informed that there is a significant housing development planned with a proposed new road and wayleave with the Land Development Agency (LDA).
The development of the new access road by the LDA opens up the department owned lands for development but impacts on the use of this land as shared car parking and set down.
Therefore, a comprehensive review of the project is needed to determine the optimal solution for the school. Upon completion of the review, the school will be advised on the subsequent actions to be taken.
