430. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment whether his Department or affiliated consumer protection bodies have received representations from retail associations, butcher networks or consumer groups regarding the labelling of Halal-certified meat; the responses or guidelines that have been provided; and the steps planned to ensure all retail stakeholders can offer clarity to customers. I can confirm that neither officials in the Consumer Policy team in my Department nor officials in the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) received representations from retail associations, butcher networks or consumer groups regarding the labelling of Halal-certified meat.

As the Deputy may be aware, responsibility for the provision of food information falls under the Food Information to Consumers (FIC) legislation which is under the remit of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

My officials are aware that in 2021 the FSAI published a report on Halal claims on meat and poultry, which is available at the following link: www.fsai.ie/getmedia/355048b1-db00-4939-b88a-1ff9641a036f/targeted-audit-of-halal-claims-on-meat-and-poultry.pdf
