As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for overall policy and exchequer funding in relation to the National Roads Programme. Under the Roads Acts 1993-2015 and in line with the National Development Plan (NDP), the operation and management of individual national roads is a matter for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), in conjunction with the local authorities concerned. This is also subject to the Infrastructure Guidelines and the necessary statutory approvals. In this context, TII is best placed to advise you in relation to costs incurred

Noting the above position, I have referred your question to TII for a direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.

As Minister for Transport, I also have responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport. The operation, maintenance and renewal of the rail network, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) in the first instance.

The Infrastructure Manager Multi Annual Contract (IMMAC) is a contractual agreement between the Minister for Transport and IÉ, which provides the funding framework for the maintenance and renewal of our railway infrastructure as required under both EU and Irish legislation.

A total of €292m was allocated to IÉ in 2024 and a total of €380m has been allocated for 2025 under the IMMAC. These are aggregate funding amounts and the distribution of funding across the rail network is a matter for IÉ.

In view of IÉ's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply in relation to this issue. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
