I propose to take Questions Nos. 22, 20 and 21 together.
Written correspondence, including emails, addressed to my office in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is managed using the eCorrespondence application which is delivered by the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO).
When an enquiry is received by the Tánaiste’s Office, staff create an eCorrespondence case. Once the eCorrespondence case has been created, staff seek input from the relevant business unit in the Department so that a prompt reply can issue.
From 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025 a total of 855 eCorrespondence cases were created within my Department that concerned the war in Gaza and the Control of Economic Activity (Occupied Territories) Bill 2018.
This figure does not include email or written correspondence received as part of mass campaigns. As material received for mass campaigns does not require individual replies, these letters and emails are not recorded on eCorresponence.
Based on the reporting tools available to my Department’s staff, it is not possible to determine the proportion of those cases that are supportive of the Bill, nor those that support both goods and services being covered by the Bill. It is also not possible to determine the number of phone calls received on this issue.
