Ireland uses the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model to manage a number of waste streams such as Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs). Producers of WEEE and ELVs may meet their relevant obligations through membership of a Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO). End of Life Vehicles Environmental Services (ELVES) CLG is the PRO with responsibility to manage the collection and environmental sound management of ELVs, while there are two PROs for WEEE: WEEE Ireland and European Recycling Platform (ERP) Ireland. The PROs publish details on the recycling and recovery rates achieved in their annual reports which are available on their respective websites.

The National Trans Frontier Shipment Office (NTFSO) is the competent authority for the export, import and transit of waste shipments under Waste Shipment Regulations. This includes tonnages in respect of WEEE and ELVs exported. The NTFSO Waste Shipment Registers are available on its website www.dublincity.ie/waste-and-recycling/national-tfs-office-exporting-and-importing-waste/ntfso-waste-shipment-registers. Given the technical nature of the registers, the Deputy may wish to engage directly with the NTFSO in order to retrieve the specific data sought.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is the competent authority for the collation of national waste statistics under relevant EU legislation.  Details of WEEE and ELV tonnages from 2021 to 2023, which is the most recent year for which data are available, are outlined in the attached.
