I propose to take Questions Nos. 1700 and 1701 together.

As the Deputy will appreciate, management of the courts and operational matters, including matters pertaining to court buildings, are the responsibility of the Courts Service, which is independent in the exercising of its functions under the Courts Service Act 1998.

However, to be of assistance to the Deputy, my officials have made enquires with the Courts Service and the following sets out the position in relation to the Deputy’s questions.

Wicklow courthouse has been closed due to health and safety concerns since September 2010. The Office of Public Works (OPW) has provided the Courts Service with costings and options for the full restoration of Wicklow Courthouse, the delivery of which is dependent on funding becoming available.

Court business continues to be transacted in Bray Court Office and Arklow for district court matters on a scheduled basis.
