I propose to take Questions Nos. 1627 and 1629 together.
The Diversity Internship Programme within An Garda Síochána aims to increase the accessibility, understanding of, and potential for a career in An Garda Síochána for school-leavers and graduates, particularly those from groups typically underrepresented in the organisation. The commencement of the programme in 2021 was the first programme of its kind for An Garda Síochána.
To be eligible for this internship, candidates had to identify as belonging to a group recognised as facing a greater risk of inequality or social exclusion in Irish society, including:
- Irish Traveller or Roma
- Minority Ethnic or Migrant background
- Socially or Economically Disadvantaged
- Have a Disability
- Lone Parent or Female Headed Household
- LGBTI+
