Seasonal workers wishing to avail of income support while unemployed may qualify for a jobseeker's payment providing all the qualifying conditions are met, including being available for full-time work and genuinely seeking work. Like all other jobseeker's, seasonal workers are required to complete the necessary jobseeker forms and supply any documentation that may be required in support of their claim.

A claim for a jobseeker's payment cannot be decided in advance of a person becoming unemployed as they cannot satisfy the qualifying conditions for the payment while they are still in employment. A person must be unemployed or have their hours/days reduced by their employer, when they make an application for a jobseeker's payment.

It is important to note, that a person should make their jobseeker's claim as soon as they become unemployed to avoid any unnecessary delays in receiving payment. If any customer is in urgent financial need my Department’s Community Welfare Service can provide assistance while they wait for their claim to be processed.

I trust this clarifies the issue for the Deputy.
