I propose to take Questions Nos. 1328, 1329, 1333 and 1353 together.

The registers containing information on the birth details of all children born in the State are maintained by the General Register Office (GRO), which operates under the aegis of my Department. Birth Certificates containing the records of any person in the register of births are obtainable under Section 61 of the Civil Registration Act 2004.

This section allows officers of the GRO and the HSE to provide upon payment of a specified fee a copy of the record or a certified copy of the record upon a written request from any member of the public.

Access of this type to the register of births has been available to the general public since the Registration of Births and Deaths Ireland Act 1863.

I can assure the Deputy that officials from the GRO have been in contact with the person concerned. The issues raised are the subject of a legal advice to establish any possible solution within the parameters of the current legislative guidelines governing civil registration obligations.

I trust this clarifies the matter for the Deputies.
