Under the Multi-annual Rural Water Programme, applications are assessed by an independent Expert Panel against the published criteria, including cost-effectiveness and other factors. The application referred to in the details supplied was considered by the Panel but was not recommended for funding. I accepted that recommendation.

My Department has provided detailed feedback on this application to the local authority concerned which is best placed to discuss possible options with the Group Water Scheme. My Department will continue to work closely with local authorities and the National Federation of Group Water Schemes to ensure that available funding is targeted to areas of greatest need and in line with the Programme’s criteria.
