1034. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills to provide an update on the progress of school building projects under the remit of the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board, DDLETB, the timelines for completion and any barriers to delivery, particularly in areas of high population growth such as Dublin Fingal West; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The attached table contains the information sought by the Deputy for the school building projects under the remit of DDLETB. For projects at Stage 4 construction a predicted timeline for completion has been provided. However, for projects at Stage 1-2 of the delivery process it is not possible to give a time frame for when these school building projects will go to construction, nor when they will be completed, as a number of significant issues may arise in the lifetime of a school building project including delays in obtaining statutory consents from the local authority and delays to the finalisation of the design process for the project as it was originally approved.
My Department is also preparing a National Development Plan (NDP) which is due for publication later in the Autumn. This plan will optimise outputs from the NDP allocations, with a strong focus on maximising existing school capacity, progressing priority projects where local capacity across schools in the area is insufficient, and ensuring delivery that is affordable, offers value for money, and meets functional needs. The NDP implementation plan will be considered as part of the ongoing review of these school building projects.
