I have overarching responsibility for public service pensions policy.

While I have responsibility for pensions policy for public servants, of whom some are school secretaries and caretakers, I have no responsibility for pensions for those school secretaries and caretakers who are directly employed by school Boards of Management and are not public servants.

The Government’s new Auto Enrolment scheme “My Future Fund” is expected to be implemented from 1 January 2026 and will provide all workers who do not have access to an occupational pension scheme with a mechanism for retirement saving. School secretaries and caretakers who are currently not in an occupational pensions scheme will be able to avail of My Future Fund, in addition to their State Pension (Contributory) entitlements.
