458. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the status of the A5 North-West Transport Corridor, including the State’s funding commitment via the Shared Island Fund, alignment with the N2/Donegal TEN-T upgrades, current approvals and delivery timeline; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 456 and 458 together.

As the Deputy is aware the planning and implementation of the A5 project is the responsibility of the authorities in Northern Ireland. The Government of Ireland has committed €600m toward the project.

In August the Minister for Infrastructure stated that her Department had served a Notice of Appeal against the High Court’s earlier judgment made in relation to the project’s progression.

My Department remains in close contact with our colleagues in Northern Ireland in relation to the project, which as the Deputy has highlighted forms an important part of the strategic transport corridor to the North West and is complementary to projects in this jurisdiction, such as the Donegal TEN-T Roads project and the N2 Clontibret to the Border.
