As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding of public transport. The operation, maintenance and renewal of the rail network and stations on the network including a proposed new station in Drogheda, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann in the first instance.

I am unaware of a business case for a new station on the north side of Drogheda, though this issue can be kept under review as the population changes. An additional station would require funding and have to secure relevant approvals required under the Infrastructure Guidelines. Iarnród Éireann will engage with any parties proposing a new station and my Department will continue to keep me informed of this issue.

In view of Iarnród Éireann's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the company for direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days.
