As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to sustainable mobility, including the provision of funding to the National Transport Authority (NTA) in support of Transport for Ireland (TfI) public bike-sharing schemes in Galway, Limerick, Cork and Waterford.

Details related to the operation of these schemes, including the current re-tendering process for their expansion as 'Shared Micromobility Schemes', are a matter for the NTA. However, I understand that the existing TFI bikes scheme in Cork will continue until the new operator is ready to commence operations under the new scheme in the summer of 2026.

As the planning, design and operation of shared mobility schemes and hubs are a matter for the NTA, I have referred your question to the NTA for a more detailed reply. If you do not receive a reply within 10 working days, please contact my private office.
