As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to sustainable mobility, including the provision of funding to the National Transport Authority (NTA) in support of Transport for Ireland (TfI) public bike-sharing schemes in Galway, Limerick, Cork and Waterford.
Details related to the operation of these schemes, including the current re-tendering process for their expansion as 'Shared Micromobility Schemes', are a matter for the NTA. The existing TFI bikes will remain in operation until the new operator is ready to commence operations in the summer of 2026.
As the planning, design and operation of shared mobility schemes are a matter for the NTA, I have referred your question to the NTA for a more detailed reply. If you do not receive a reply within 10 working days, please contact my private office.
