3423. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the funding set aside for the North South Research Fund; the number of applicants and the awards given to successful applicants, in 2025 and in previous years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [44024/25]

In March 2022, over €37million was awarded from the Shared Island Fund to support this programme, based on three strands, viz:

(a) bilateral researcher-researcher projects

(b) emerging hubs of excellence

(c) Partnerships of Scale.

Some 62 projects were awarded funding across three programme strands, ranging in value from €200,000 over two years to €4 million over four years.

A second call focusing on the stands at (b) and (c) above was launched late last year and the Expert Assessment Panel has concluded its evaluation. I hope that a formal announcement on the outcome of the call will be made very shortly.
