3307. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills for an update on the status of the business case submitted by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science seeking access to the single public service pension scheme for research staff in higher education institutions who are currently excluded from pension entitlements; the expected timeframe for a decision; and if he will make a statement on the matter. DFHERIS is strongly of the view that research staff in all higher education institutions across the sector should be able to access a public service pension scheme.
Officials from my Department have submitted a business case to the Department of Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform to support access to the single public service pension scheme for those researchers who are not currently able to join the scheme. Officials from both Departments are working to bring this matter to a resolution as soon as possible.
