The Government has invested over €5 million in specialist endometriosis care since 2021. Two supra-regional specialist centres have been developed for the management of complex endometriosis, supported by five regional hubs for moderate cases.
Recognising the wide-ranging impact of the condition, multi-disciplinary teams have been funded to deliver holistic, person-centred care. These include consultant roles in colorectal, urology, and radiology, along with women’s health physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists, specialist nurses, and healthcare assistants.
Investment since 2021 has provided 24.6 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE). Services are expanding as recruitment continues for a further 18.6 WTEs with funding provided this year.
Treatment, including surgical intervention, is being provided across the network. Over 300 specialist surgeries were provided between August and December 2024 and over 200 surgeries were carried out in Q1 this year. Service provisions will expand as recruitment continues and structured pathways of care are established.
