The Department of Health publishes mortality statistics hosted by the CSO (available here: data.cso.ie/product/MORT). This data is based on official Vital Statistics data received from the Central Statistics Office. These statistics record the age-standardised death rate by cause of death within each county for each year. They are not published by region. Information is only available for deaths that have been registered with the General Registers Office (GRO). Final data on deaths based on date of occurrence, from the CSO’s Vital Statistics Annual Report, is available up to 2022.

Final data on the age standardised mortality rate for 2023 will be published towards the end of 2025. Similarly, final data for 2024 will be published in November 2026.

The following link provides data on the age-standardised mortality rate for Ischaemic Heart Disease and Other Heart Disease occurring annually in counties of Ireland for the period 2015 to 2022. County refers to the county of residence of the person. This data is publicly available at: data.cso.ie/table/MORT02
