Internal and external reporting channels for protected disclosures are designed and operated to ensure that the confidentiality of the identity of the reporting person, and any other person concerned, as well as the information that has been disclosed, is protected.

Under Section 22 of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014, the Department is required to publish an annual report setting out the number of protected disclosures received in the preceding year, and the action taken (if any). These reports are high level and don’t contain details of the actual disclosures. All such annual reports are published on the Department's website.

The Department of Health received in total 19 Protected disclosures in 2024. 17 were transmitted to the Office of the Protected Disclosures Commissioner under Section 8, and 2 were received from the Office of the Protected Disclosures Commissioner under Section 10C(1)(b).
