I propose to take Questions Nos. 2268 and 2269 together.

There have been significant developments in the entitlements to family leaves and flexibility for working families in recent years.

The Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 2023 introduced important entitlements for workers, including the right to request flexible working for parents and carers. As part of the relevant section of the Work Life Balance and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, a review of the right to request flexible working is to take place within two years of commencement. Work has begun to scope the terms of this review and what other elements can be included as part of the review. My Department will engage with relevant stakeholders, including employer representatives, as part of that process.

The Programme for Government sets out a commitment to examine the possible extension of parent's leave and benefit and additional flexibilities. Presently, the next National Strategy for Women and Girls is in development and will consider ways to support working families in balancing the competing demands of family and work.
