I am advised by the Garda authorities that the Garda National Vetting Bureau (GNVB), which is responsible for carrying out Garda vetting in respect of persons working with children or vulnerable adults, operates under the remit of the Executive Director, Information & Technology within An Garda Síochána.

The GNVB plays a key role in safeguarding procedures across a wide range of sectors and continues to operate as a dedicated unit based in Thurles, Co. Tipperary. The Bureau handles a significant volume of applications annually and has embraced enhanced technology and process improvement in recent years to improve efficiency and service delivery.

The civilian staff working in the GNVB are Garda Staff members (as distinct from sworn Garda members) and are deployed across a range of administrative and supervisory grades. Staffing levels are monitored on an ongoing basis to ensure that service demand is met in a timely and effective manner.

The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the number of whole-time equivalent (WTE) civilian staff, by grade, working in the Garda National Vetting Bureau is provided in the table below. The figures reflect the latest available validated data, which is as of 30 June 2025.

Garda staff assigned to the Bureau provide vital administrative and operational support to ensure that the vetting system functions effectively and meets its statutory obligations under the National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016.
