In order to accelerate the process of site designation for Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE), in line with the commitment in the Programme for Government, a national ORE Designated Maritime Area Plan (DMAP) is being developed. This plan has the objective of designating sites sufficient to deliver at least 20GW of ORE across Ireland’s entire maritime area by 2040. It is expected this DMAP will be completed by the end of 2027. This process will ensure that ORE developments in Ireland’s maritime area will take place in a managed, plan-led, strategic, and sustainable way.
To achieve Ireland's targets of 5GW of offshore wind by 2030, a number of projects (known as Phase 1 Projects), including projects on the East Coast, are currently in the planning system. Further details on each of these projects are available on the website of An Coimisiún Pleanála, www.pleanala.ie.
