I propose to take Questions Nos. 1992, 1993 and 2062 together.
The Government is committed to providing An Garda Síochána with the resources needed to keep people safe. This is reflected in the unprecedented allocation of over €2.48 billion in Budget 2025. This is allowing for sustained investment in recruitment, equipment, technology, and vehicles.
An Garda Síochána publishes detailed information on the Garda fleet from 2008 to date, including a breakdown of the Garda fleet by fuel type. I note the monthly Fleet reports are currently available from 2020 to June 2025. This is publicly available on their website at the following link:
www.garda.ie/en/about-us/our-departments/finance-services/finance-fleet-management.html
To be of assistance I have provided the below table which outlines the breakdown of the Garda Fleet by Fuel type as of 30 June 2025.
Diesel | 2780 | 75.6% |
---|---|---|
Electric | 279 | 7.6% |
Hybrid Unleaded | 104 | 2.8% |
Mild Hybrid Diesel | 210 | 5.7% |
Plug in Electric Hybrid | 30 | 0.8% |
Unleaded | 276 | 7.5% |
Total | 3679 | 100% |
The tables at the following link have been provided to me by the Garda authorities and provide a divisional breakdown of the age of vehicles in the Garda fleet as of 25 June.

1994. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of active members of An Garda Síochána, by district, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [41712/25]

The total Garda workforce is currently at its highest ever level, now over 18,000 people, comprising 14,198 members, 3,507 Staff and 298 Reserves, with a government commitment to fund the recruitment of at least 5,000 new Gardaí over the next five years.
The Deputy should note that, since the roll out of the Garda Operating Model to all Divisions earlier this year, the District model no longer applies. An Garda Síochána polices on a Divisional basis, with four functional areas in each Division, these being Community Engagement, Crime, Performance Assurance and Business Services.
In the interest of transparency, An Garda Síochána publish information in relation to the number of active members by Division and Station which is publicly available and can be found at the following link:

1995. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the net change in the number of members of Garda Síochána since 2023, when retirements, resignations and new recruitments are taken into account; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [41713/25]

The overall Garda workforce, which includes Gardaí, Garda Staff and Reserves is higher than ever at just over 18,000, and significant measures have been made to boost recruitment and retention within An Garda Síochána over the past years.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that at the end of 2023 there were 13,998 Garda members. As of 31 May 2025, there were 14,198 Garda members, a net increase of 200 Gardaí.
In the interest of transparency, An Garda Síochána publish information in relation to the number of active members by Division and Station which is publicly available and can be found at the following link: www.garda.ie/garda/en/about-us/our-departments/human-resources-and-people-development/garda-hr-directorate/garda-strength-breakdown-2025/may-2025.html.
The Deputy should select the file titled “Garda Workforce Strength 2006 to 31st May 2025” for a breakdown of active members of An Garda Síochána.
