1952. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of visas that have been issued to non-naturalised parents of children born in Ireland over the last five years; the number of those visas that have been extended; and the number of those visas that have resulted in applications to remain, broken down by country of origin, in tabular form. I understand the Deputy has clarified that he is referring to the granting of immigration permissions.
I can inform the Deputy that children who are born in Ireland after 1 January 2005 are automatically entitled to Irish Citizenship, if one of their parents are Irish or UK citizens, or if one of their parents has accumulated 3 years reckonable residence in the 4 years prior to their birth. When a child is not entitled to citizenship at birth, an application for naturalisation can be made on behalf of a child who is born in Ireland, or whose parent have become a naturalised Irish citizen, provided that the child has 3 years reckonable residency in the State.
Furthermore, if a non-EEA national is the parent to an Irish citizen child, they may apply for permission to remain in the State on that basis.
Applicants who are the parent of an Irish citizen child and who either entered the State on a short stay visa, who do not have a valid immigration permission, or who have been refused renewal or registration, need to submit an application to the Domestic Residence and Permissions (DRP) division of my Department.
Table 1 below details the number of such applications received to the DRP division from 2020, up to 28 July 2025, from the ten nationalities with the highest number of applications.

Applicants who are the parent of an Irish citizen child and who have an existing immigration permission can apply to renew their permission using the Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) Online Forms portal at inisonline.jahs.ie/user/login, upon satisfying the relevant criteria.
Applicants who have recently entered the State and who are the parent of an Irish citizen child should make an appointment with the Registration Office within ISD by using our dedicated Customer Service portal, /portal.irishimmigration.ie/en/, and attend the office to register their permission with the required documentation.
Further information is available on my Departments ISD website at the following link: www.irishimmigration.ie/my-situation-has-changed-since-i-arrived-in-ireland/the-parent-of-an-irish-citizen-child/
Statistics on those that have received an immigration permission as the parent of an Irish citizen child through an online renewal or first-time registration are not available. While the Registration Office record each individual immigration permission application with the category of the immigration stamp being granted, sub-totals of such categories are not currently recorded.
