1932. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of persons who have died in direct provision in each year since it was established; and if a breakdown will be provided of the ages of those who died. [41128/25]

The Department publishes information on deaths of people resident in International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) centres on a biannual basis.

The most recent publication was in February 2025, reporting on the period to end December 2024. Information is provided, where available, by gender, age-range, nationality and cause of death.

The regular publication of these date is part of the International Protection Accommodation Service (IPAS) policy on the recording and reporting of deaths of residents in accommodation centres. This policy is intended to balance the need for openness and transparency in all State organisations in the provision of information to the public, with the expectation of privacy and consideration of the sensitive nature surrounding the death of any individual for their family and friends.
