1827. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection if he is aware of ongoing issues with the PSC online renewal system in accepting photographs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [42366/25]

Public Services Cards can be renewed by using the online MyWelfare renewal service, or by attending an in-person appointment at an Intreo or PSC Centre.
Customers with a verified MyGovId account who wish to renew online need to provide a photograph which must meet International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards. The online service provides guidelines on the requirements for these photographs, which are similar to those used by the Passport Office, and includes advice on photograph size, lighting, background, and facial expression.
Since its introduction in 2021, almost 300,000 people have successfully renewed their card using the online service.
Enhancements were made to the online renewal system in mid 2024 which have resulted in much greater photograph acceptance rates. It is acknowledged that some people can still experience problems with the photo quality submitted. Currently where a submitted photograph is rejected, a photo can be taken at one of the Department's Intreo or PSC Centres. Photographs from other sources cannot be accepted for identity security reasons.
The Department will continue to monitor and explore further improvement to the online renewal system to improve the user experience.
