In Budget 2024, the Government announced a new temporary mortgage interest tax credit (MITC) available through Revenue. This MITC initially applied to the 2023 tax year, however, it was extended to include the 2024 tax year.
The Homeowner's Once-Off Payment was a separate payment, administered by the Department of Social Protection. A person may have been eligible for support through this payment, only where they had not benefitted from any of the MITC, from the Revenue Commissioners. The Homeowner’s Once-Off Payment scheme applies in respect of mortgage interest payments in 2023 only and was not extended to include the year 2024.
According to the records of the Department, the person concerned applied for the Homeowner’s Once-Off Payment on 26/09/2023 in respect of mortgage interest payments in 2023. This application was processed, and the person concerned was awarded a payment of €811.45. A letter advising the person of this outcome was issued to them on 01/10/2024.
If the person concerned has any queries in relation to the MITC for the year 2024, it is advisable that they contact the Office of the Revenue Commissioners for further assistance.
