I acknowledge that the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk is an important piece of infrastructure, both from a tourist perspective and for the benefit of the people living in Bray and Greystones, and that prior to its closure for safety reasons, the annual usage of the walk peaked at over 292,000.

I note that the Council will be seeking tenders for Consultants to carry out an assessment of the current condition of the walk, the potential to re-open, and to develop an interim strategy to manage the walk and put in place a more resilient, sustainable trail.

There is a provisional allocation of €60,000 from the Local Government Fund in 2025, to allow Wicklow County Council employ consultants to carry out this assessment. It is hoped that this funding will assist the Council in the reopening of this important scenic route to the public.

Part V of the Local Government Act 1991, as amended, contains provisions relating to local authority boundary alterations, including procedures in relation to proposals for such alteration; provision for the establishment of a boundary committee to review boundaries; and power for the Minister, subject to specified conditions, to alter boundaries by order.

There are currently no proposals as provided for in the legislation for an alteration of the Wicklow county boundary.

The funding system for local authorities is a complex one, as authorities derive their income from a variety of sources including commercial rates, charges for goods and services, Local Property Tax (LPT) as well as funding from Government Departments and other bodies. Central Government funding of local authorities similarly presents a complex picture, with transfers, both current and capital, coming from a wide range of Departments and Offices for a variety of purposes.

Across all schemes and funding sources, my Department has provided the following funding to Wicklow County Council:

- 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024 2025*
Wicklow €120,732,526.25 €116,013,811.02 €151,861,927.44 €129,871,608.85 €127,114,309.57 €48,963,904.09
*includes spend to the end of June 2025
