Government has approved the establishment of a Commission of Investigation into the Handling of Historical Child Sexual Abuse in Day and Boarding Schools and Mr. Justice Michael MacGrath has been appointed Chair of the Commission, effective from October 1st 2025. The Commission will be independent in its operation.
Initial preparation work will take place, including stakeholder consultation, following which a national survey will be conducted in due course. The timeline of the Commission's engagement with survivors will be determined by Commission itself, following its initial establishment phase. When it is ready to begin that process of engagement with survivors, this will be widely advertised.
