IDA Ireland manages the Taiwanese market as an integral part of its market development plan for the ASEAN Region and Taiwan markets from their Singapore office and the ASEAN or Association of South East Asian Nations member countries include Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Brunai.
Market analysis (source; FDI markets over the period 2019-24) show that most ASEAN outward FDI is intra-Asia (c.58%) and c.65% of all FDI into Europe from the region originates in Singapore while Taiwan is a distant second. Accordingly. as continuing trends identify Singapore as the primary source of outbound FDI destined for Europe from the region, the IDA has considered it prudent for them to maintain its on-the-ground in market presence in the region in Singapore. In this context, IDA does not have any immediate plans to reopen an office in Taiwan and will continue the service the market from Singapore.
