Government grants have multiple benefits for business. Grants can stimulate innovation and research, support public services and encourage entrepreneurship. Grants also can address specific needs, targeting areas and sectors, levelling the playing field whilst promoting equity via resource provision.

Set out below is a list of grant payments administered by my Department in the past five years.

Grant Year (2020 to date) Value
Restart Grant 2020 108,493 applications valued at €632.3 million
Microfinance Ireland 2020 €24.8 million
Microfinance Ireland 2021 €5 million
Small Business Assistance Scheme for COVID 2021 5529 applications valued at €20.9 million
Business Users Support Scheme for Kerosene 2023 464 applications valued at €614,000
Increased Cost of Business Scheme 2024 75,000 applications valued at €246.6 million
Power Up Grant 2024 39,668 applications valued at €161.4 million
In respect of the agencies that come within my remit, they are statutorily independent in their functions and this is an operational matter for them. I have, therefore, referred the Deputy's question to the agencies for direct reply.
