The recently published review of the National Development Plan (NDP) outlines the principal capital expenditure ceilings for the period 2026–2030. It is the most ambitious investment framework in the history of the Irish State, with €102.4 billion earmarked for capital spending. Each Government Department is now charged with the responsibility of formulating sector-specific and project-level implementation strategies, thereby translating these high-level allocations into concrete, actionable investments.

Within this framework, the Department of Rural and Community Development and Gaeltacht Affairs, which has been allocated €1.329 billion under the revised NDP, will articulate its priority programmes and capital initiatives for the five-year period. The Department of Rural and Community Development and Gaeltacht Affairs, in the course of this planning process, will determine which projects within the Gaeltacht portfolio will receive funding under its designated capital ceiling.
