Government has provided significant support to households and business over the last three years to help absorb the impact of higher prices. At the same time it is important that fiscal policy does not add to inflationary pressure within the economy.

Protecting the economy, supporting and protecting jobs and investing in our public finances to ensure the sustainability of the public finances are key priorities for this Government. Inflation has now returned to normal levels, and given that we are currently in a period of considerable international uncertainty, it would not be appropriate to introduce a package of further one-off measures.

Government set out the parameters for Budget 2026 in the Summer Economic Statement. The fiscal policy decisions that will arise from these parameters will be considered through the normal budgetary process.
