As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, I wish to advise the Deputy that An Garda Síochána already have full enforcement powers, under section 139(1)(c) of the Finance Act 1993 (as amended), to issue a fixed charge of €60 for a range of registration plate offences.

As mentioned to the Deputy in my response to PQ 32851/25, the number plate enforcement powers which were extended to the Revenue Commissioners under the Road Traffic and Roads Act 2023 cannot be commenced until the necessary operational systems have been put in place. These powers will be commenced, and any necessary secondary legislation enacted, once my Department has received confirmation from the Commissioners that these preparations have been completed.
