As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that the role of the Department of Transport with regard to motor insurance is limited to the drafting of legislation under the EU Motor Insurance Directives and the Road Traffic Acts. My Department has no legal vires in respect of the provision of insurance cover, which is a commercial matter for insurance companies.
