424. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport the analyses that his Department conducted on incentivising EV fleets and how flexible charging can be an incentive to benefit companies financially; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [41685/25]

Electrification will play a significant role in the decarbonisation of the transport sector with electric vehicles expected to provide the largest share of emission abatement in the short to medium term.

In addition to the eSPSV Grant Scheme for taxis, hackneys and limousines, and the ZEHDV Grant Scheme to assist companies and enterprises who wish to buy zero emission HDVs, Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland is funding the SEAI EV fleet assessment grant.

This scheme will provide organisations with an experienced assessor who will examine their current fleet and assist in identifying an efficient and effective pathway to fleet electrification. The assessor will look at both the electric vehicles and the charging infrastructure which would be required to support them in moving to a zero emission fleet.

While EV charging in Ireland is expected to take place at home for a large proportion of the population, many workers live in dwellings with little or no direct access to EV charging infrastructure. An uptake in employers investing in charging equipment on their premises could help bridge that gap and support employees who wish to make the transition to EV.

From a flexibility perspective, workplace charging presents an opportunity for employers and the grid. Charging behaviour at work typically reflects charging at off-peak times over a longer period.

The use of onsite renewable technologies like solar and battery storage can further make charging at work more energy efficient and have a positive impact on the employer’s bottom line, supporting business continuity planning as well as the national grid.

Ireland has committed to transitioning to a low carbon economy by 2050 and decarbonisation of heavy-duty vehicles will be key to achieving this objective within the transport sector.

The Government is fully committed to supporting a significant expansion and modernisation of the EV charging network over the coming years. Having an effective and reliable charging network is an essential part of enabling drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles.

Zero Emission Vehicles Ireland works with colleagues across Government and the public sector to deliver policy solutions which will help accelerate fleet electrification and delivery of a reliable public EV charging network that will ensure drivers can use their vehicles confidently and efficiently, knowing that they can charge their new trucks along their route no matter where on the road network.

In November 2024, the ZEHDV scheme was expanded to include purchase grants to HDV recharging infrastructure. This scheme assists with the purchase and installation of infrastructure association with the recharging of heavy-duty vehicles that are electric and zero emission.

Successful applicants can install their own depot charging points and also facilitates public charging around logistics hubs and in urban nodes. Financial support for ZEHDV charging infrastructure is provided irrespective of whether applicants own/purchase a ZEHDV or not.
