407. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if Irish Rail owns land on the north side of Drogheda, County Louth, that could be used to establish a new train station serving that part of the region; if it is not the case, if Irish Rail is in discussions with Louth County Council, or any other agency or relevant property owners, to acquire a site that would facilitate the opening of such a station; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The maintenance, renewal and operation of the rail network and stations on the network, including the proposed station referred to, is a matter for Iarnród Éireann (IÉ) in the first instance.
Noting IÉ's responsibility in relation to the rail network and stations on the network, I have referred the Deputy's question to IÉ for a more detailed reply on the specific issue raised. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.
