I wish to advise the Deputy that my Department has not procured any services from the company Starlink.
In relation to the bodies under the aegis of my Department, the Office of the Revenue Commissioners has advised as follows:
The Office of the Revenue Commissioners is committed to targeting the illegal importation and exportation of prohibited and restricted goods and implements a range of measures to identify and target illegal smuggling and, where possible, prosecuting those involved.
Revenue’s approach involves the use of analytics and detection technologies and ensuring the optimum deployment of resources on a risk-focused basis. In that context, Revenue’s Maritime Unit currently has three maritime satellite internet communication units (one per Revenue cutter) utilising services provided by Starlink and procured in line with public procurement procedures.
The provision of maritime satellite internet communication services is kept under continuous review by Revenue as technological advancements drive the availability of new solutions and services.
