Ireland is a member of the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Port State Control. The member state authorities of the Paris MoU carry out inspections on foreign flagged ships calling into the ports of the region. This ensures an effective 100% coverage of all ports and ships in the region. Each member authority of the Paris MoU is allocated an inspection commitment annually to ensure this full coverage. In Ireland's ports these ship inspections are carried out by surveyors of the Marine Survey Office of my Department. The table below sets out these inspections carried out in each port annually over the past five years.
