To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he has received correspondence relating to an unauthorised agricultural operation (details supplied); if he has responded to this correspondence; the steps taken to address the matter; if he will arrange for an inspection of this operation to judge its compliance with regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm that my office received and responded to correspondence in relation to the persons named and a follow-up inspection was carried out.
Whilst my Department cannot comment on individual cases, it is worth highlighting that legitimate late evening animal sales take place at some marts across the country with animals transported subsequently. This activity is in compliance with EU transport regulations which allows for up to eight-hour national journeys without rest from a mart.
