The Department of Transport (DoT) is responsible for the investment in the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG) building programme aimed at ensuring that Coast Guard facilities along the coast are fit for purpose.
The programme is fully funded by the Department as the Approving Authority, with project delivery managed by the Office of Public Works (OPW) as the Contracting Authority, from planning and design to construction and ongoing maintenance.
The following table itemises the breakdown of costs that have been discharged on behalf of the DoT to date.
Category | Costs (excl. VAT) |
---|---|
Investigative surveys | €29,780.50 |
Design Team fees - consultancy | €280,893.28 |
Statutory and planning related costs | €7,542.57 |
Utility | €6,173.50 |
The tendering process is complete and, in compliance with the Infrastructure Guidelines, the project has been approved by the DOT at approval Gate 3. The OPW has submitted a further planning application for this project to Wicklow County Council as the original planning permission granted was due to expire in September 2025. It is envisaged that works will commence on site by quarter four of this year.
