The establishment of the Accelerating Renewable Electricity Taskforce (“ARE Taskforce”) in March 2023 was one of the key measures set out in the Climate Action Plan.

The role of the ARE Taskforce is to deliver a cohesive approach to policymaking, to enable the delivery of sufficient onshore renewable electricity generation capacity and the supporting technologies and infrastructure, which will enable Ireland to meet 80% of electricity demand with renewable sources. In addition to meeting these targets, increasing the deployment of onshore renewable electricity generation capacity and related infrastructure will create a more sustainable and resilient energy system for the future.

The ARE Taskforce does not have its own budget. Each Government Department and State Body active in the ARE Taskforce is responsible for the allocation and management of their own budget.
