180. To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade for an update on efforts to bring about the restoration of tariff-free trading with the USA, and progress on an EU-India trade deal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [38978/25]

Since April, many Irish exports to the US have been subject to an additional 10% tariff. The imposition of these tariffs has had a negative impact on all types of businesses, from multinational companies to small, medium and micro enterprises.
The Government takes note of the letter sent by the US to the EU last Saturday, 12 July. The EU continues to negotiate with the US in good faith. Notwithstanding the letter, the European Commission has been clear that they are working towards the conclusion of a deal as soon as possible and in advance of the deadline of 1 August. The Government strongly supports these efforts.
Our objective remains agreement on a mutually beneficial deal that works for both sides. A negotiated outcome is the best way forward. The intention has been to limit the impact of the existing 10% baseline tariff but also to avoid any additional tariffs being introduced. We want to reach an agreement in principle which will give much needed certainty to businesses operating on both sides of the Atlantic. In this framework my priority is to achieve zero for zero arrangements for as many sectors as possible.
Recent developments in the international trading environment have highlighted more than ever the importance of market diversification via an expanded set of EU Free Trade Agreements. As a result, there is increased momentum behind an EU-India deal, which is key to strengthening their strategic partnership.
Intensive work is being undertaken to achieve an economically meaningful agreement with good market access for EU firms. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic and Indian Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal have met several times in recent months and negotiations are ongoing.
Ireland fully supports free, fair and open trade and will continue to work with the EU and all Member States to negotiate a mutually beneficial deal with India.
